What do we want more than Self Care?

Self care is easier said than done...am I right?  2020 brought so many changes...good the bad and probably some ugly...am I right?   Now that January 2021 has made its appearance, so has my birthday.  I just turned 38. And deep down I feel truly blessed to be where I am.  My husband (I could not ask for a better spouse) and I have four beautiful children, building our dream home on our farm, and continue to grow our farm….It Great!...right?

But as my birthday date approached, I really didn’t want to celebrate.  This creeping to be forty doesn’t sound too appealing. I know...I know..I’ve read all the latest trends… forty is the new thirty….insert eye roll…. I don’t FEEL thirty!  Seriously these aches and pains were way easier to tend to five year ago.

So what did I do???  I had a pity party! But only for three days. Anything shorter or longer is just a waste of time! (Thank you for the pity party advice Walter Bond!) Have you ever felt like me? The constant urge of wanting to be healthier mind and body?

Well...At the end of the three day pity party I came up with a plan!  I am going to start taking care of myself! And here's how! I hope you find some of these ideas will help you find your inner peace!

She’s loves flowers as much as I do. I love seeing the spark of ambition in her eyes! Love you Grace!

And this is where the plot twist happened…I kept having writer's block...kept putting off finishing my blog. Thinking to myself; how is my advice so much different than anyone else?  I kept looking at my list. Prioritize healthy eating, make time with my friends, use my datebook more efficiently.  I realized these are the same goals I have for myself each...and...every...year.🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ Maybe I set my goals too high? But then I thought... I still managed to accomplish part of my goals.  Still working on mastering each.

So Instead of giving a redundant list of how I am going to do self care. Something you can read in the latest issue of Women’s Health. Let’s celebrate each other’s accomplishments!  I’ll start!

  1. I’m so proud of starting Barnside Flower Farm. It really has been one of the hardest things I have ever done...physically and mentally! I learned so many lessons this year. I have killed LOTS of plants, but also have had tons of successful growth. Thank you so much for supporting our farm.  If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t get to have this awesome and beautiful farm!

  2. I lost 10 lbs….It's definitely not where I really want to be, but hey...It's a start! So here’s to 10 more this year!

  3. My husband and I decided to simplify and complicate our lives all the same time. We want to live on our farm so everything is at one location and it would be a great environment to raise our children.  What is complicated is building a new home. We are getting there, and I have faith it will be everything we dream it will be.

  4. Finally...I feel more at peace and I know my path. For so many years I felt there were so many unknowns that I didn’t know exactly where I fit in. I’m so thankful for the friends and family I have in my life!

I need to tell myself this many times! Enjoy the present state!

So what were your 2020 achievements? Did you learn a new skill? Find your inner peace? Caught up with old friends?

Even though self-care is super important, I think it lies second to celebrating our own successes.  We can’t take care of ourselves till we realize how much we truly value ourselves. So what do you say? What are your successes? I’d love to know; and help you celebrate!

Xoxo,

Carrie
